On March 22, 1948, Iowa State College (University) sponsored a 90th anniversary celebration in honor of the founding of the college, which occurred on the same date in 1858 when the charter act establishing a state agricultural college became law. Statistician Theodore Alfonso Bancroft received his B.A. (1927) from the University of Florida, an M.A. (1934) from the University of Michigan, and a Ph.D. (1943) from Iowa State College (University). Bancroft began his career at Iowa State University as a Graduate Assistant (1941-1943) and Assistant Professor (1943-1945).
